he doesn't know
by Jonathon Olenick
Johnny the monkey boy traveled far, far, far in order to visit a monkey girl. The monkey girl had medicated herself because her period was bad, so she was a little weird when she met Johnny at the bus station. "Malacha-ting!" she cried as she saw him.
"Oh, hi Stella! It's good to see you!"
"Malla-mala ting-chaw!" she exclaimed.
"Heh. Yeah," he replied, looking at her sideways in the wan afternoon light.
Johnny didn't know that she was medicated. But Johnny didn't know a lot of things. He didn't know he had bowel cancer. He didn't know that his father was not his father (and neither did his father for that matter). And though he knew he was going to die someday, he had yet to develop a real sense of his finite nature.
"Malla-malla-malla!" Stella shrieked.
"Ok," said Johnny.
"Hey - Johnny - I took a lot of meds cuzza my period pain."
"Oh. Ok."
"It's good to see you."
"Good to see you too, Stella," Johnny said. Then he got into her truck and they drove away.
