Midas Cryogenics

Mama, mouth-open, mid-

gasp. She’s closer to marigold

like the dingy yellow that stained

her hospital bed. Neighborhood cats, tails curled like cup handles

to keep her company. Mikey, eyes nearly disappeared

in smile, front tooth gone too, arms reaching

for eternity’s hug. Time can’t

chew them now. It won’t stop

my heart with gold coat to spread through

my veins, meld my mind into cold

peace. So I wait.
